摘要 In order to protect an object, for example a ship's hull, against underwater explosions, it is proposed that received compression energy from the shock wave of the explosion shall be stored temporarily in the object and, following passage of the shock wave, shall be returned in controlled manner to the surrounds of the object. The storage can be realized through compression of a medium such as a gas. When the compression energy is to be returned to the surrounding water, the medium is allowed to expand at an appropriate rate. For the implementation of the method, a device is proposed comprising a "rigid" 5 and a "flexible" chamber 15 and a connection 25 between the chambers, which connection is provided with a non- return valve 7 the cone 18 of which has a blow hole 17. The "flexible" chamber 15 is compressed by the pressure from the shock wave, whereupon gas flows into the "rigid" chamber 5. When the pressure in the shock wave then falls, the valve 7 is closed. The pressure between the chambers is subsequently equalized by gas flowing slowly back through the blow hole 17. <IMAGE>
