A lift comprises two interconnected towers 1, 4, Fig. 2, mounted on a base 3 on a quayside, a lift-cage 2, supported on the tower 1, and a bridge 5, which is vertically slidable on the tower 4 at one end, carries upper stop means for the cage, and has its opposite end resting on the deck of a ship. This arrangement provides for relative movement between the ship and the quay and ensures that the cage stops at the correct height. The bridge is supported on the ship by a carriage 11 which runs on a rail 13 on the deck and is itself movable on rails disposed longitudinally of the bridge. |
