PURPOSE:To discriminate the top or rear surface of recording paper correctly by providing an optical sensor provided in a recording paper feed path, a narrow part of the feed path in the vicinity of the optical sensor, and a discriminating means which discriminates the top or rear surface of recording paper on the basis of the optical sensor. CONSTITUTION:Color developing paper 28 is fed along a feed guide 31d disposed on the opposite side of the top or rear surface detection sensor 40. When the color developing paper 28 is fed to a narrow part 64 of the feed guide 31d, the top or rear surface detection sensor 40 reads the reflectance of the color developing paper 28 by a detection circuit. On the basis of the reflectance, a CPU discriminates the top or rear surface of the color developing paper 28 abutting on microcapsule paper 12. At this time, since the narrow part 64 is so constructed as to be recessed on the side of the top or rear surface detection sensor 40 and narrowed on the opposite side of the top or rear surface detection sensor 40, there is no possibility that the color developing paper 28 may be separated from the feed guide 31d at the narrow part 64 during feeding. Namely, the constantly fixed distance between the top or rear surface detection sensor 40 and the color developing paper 28 is ensured at the narrow part 64. |
