The pumping system for a vehicle wheel (2) with a tyre (6) mounted on a wheel rim (4), in which the tyre (6) exhibits an air chamber, makes it possible to keep constant the value of the pressure of the tyres while the vehicle is being driven along. A pump (14) is located on the wheel rim (4) by connecting, to the air chamber, a compression chamber so as to allow the air to flow out. A compression element of the pump (14) is connected to a push-rod capable of effecting a reciprocating movement. The push-rod interacts with stop surfaces (18) located on a circle which is coaxial with respect to the axis of rotation (22) of the vehicle wheel (2). <IMAGE>
