A method for preparing 1-oxo-1,2,3,4-tetrahydro naphthalene comprises dissolving 6 valence cromic acid in N,N-dialkyl acid amide to obtain a homogeneous catalyst system, oxidizing tetraline with the obtd. catalyst at a bubble tower. Pref. the N,N-dialkyl acid amide is N,N-dimethyl formamide, N,N-dimethyl acetamide or N,N-diethyl formamide. The volume ratio of N,N-dialkyl acid amide to 6 valence cromic acid is 40-60.
