MEASLES VIRUS RECOMBINANT POXVIRUS VACCINE

Recombinant poxvirus (I) contg. DNA from Morbilli-virus in a nonessential region of the poxvirus genome is new. Also described are: (1) a vaccine for inducing an immunological response in a host animal inoculated with the vaccine, the vaccine comprising a carrier and (I); and (2) a method for protecting a dog against canine distemper, which comprises inoculating the dog. with (I). In (I) the Morbillivirus is the measles virus and the DNA codes for measles virus haemagglutinin glycoprotein and/or measles virus fusion protein. DNA is expressed in host by the prodn. of a measles virus glycoprotein. Poxvirus is a vaccinia, avipox or canarypox virus and contains a promoter for expressing the Morbillivurs DNA.
