The hospital bed has a free-standing bed frame (1) with self-supporting mattress section (8). The mattress section turns in bearings(2) in the frame, and a counterweight (7) allows it to be set in any inclined position up to 90 deg. after release of the locking mechanism (4). A damper reduces shock-load on reaching either end position. ADVANTAGE - Greatly aids nursing of severely-injured patients in particular.
