Device has a wedge-shaped profile which is inserted into the nip between two calendering rolls. The wedge is formed of several idler rollers and a driven roller around which a continuous metal band turns in either direction. The driven roller can be moved to or from the idler rollers to vary tension in the metal belt. Belt tension variation alters belt surface opposite one of the calendering rolls from a smooth flat area to a sine-wave profile. Belt speeds, direction and tension are altered wrt. process conditions required by different materials. USE/ADVANTAGE - Varies conditions in the roll nip w.r.t. material type
