摘要 1,138,271. Superconducting magnet. HITACHI SEISAKUSHO K.K. 17 Jan., 1967 [17 Jan., 1966], No. 2383/67. Heading H1K. A superconducting magnet comprises a plurality of serially connected superconducting coils 32A, 32B, a plurality of variable resistors 38A, 38B, each resistor being connected to one terminal of each coil, a plurality of switches 39A, 39B each connected in series with each of the variable resistors, a plurality of protective resistors 34A, 34B, each connected across the terminals of each of said coils, a plurality of D.C. power sources 36A, 36B, each connected in series with each of the coils and their switches and variable resistors, and means 35 for maintaining said coils superconducting. The coils 32A and 32B are two concentric multilayer coils made of Nb 33% Zr and Nb 25% Zr respectively, which are immersed in a liquid helium bath and have phosphor-bronze power leads whose resistances are designated by 37A, 37 and 37B. The magnet may comprise three or more concentric multilayer coils, Fig. 7 (not shown). It is preferred that the innermost coil should carry the smallest current whilst the currents carried by the other coils should increase with their distances from the centre. In another embodiment (Fig. 8, not shown), the D.C. power sources are provided via a rectifying and smoothing circuit from separate output windings on a transformer, the turns in the respective output winding being equal to the turns in the equivalent coil. It is stated to be known to connect superconducting coils in parallel, each with a serially connected variable resistor and a shunt resistance across each coil but this arrangement inherently has more resistance in the leads to the coils (Fig. 5, not shown).
