Rolling pipes with control of temp. distribution - using measured geometry at rolling mechanism outlet to control local heating and/or cooling using on=line processor

The method of rolling pipes involves setting a desired temp. distribution in the roll material before and/or during the rolling process. The temp. distribution varies the shaping resistance of the material region by region. The pipe's geometric characteristics to be influenced are measured at the outlet of the mechanism and fed to a control loop contg. a demand-actual value comparator, a real time processor and signal convertor. The actual-demand difference is processed into a correction value using theoretical data. The converted correction value is used for local adjustment of the temp. distribution in the material before it enters the rolling mechanism. ADVANTAGE - Enables local temp. distribution of pipe material to be adjusted by local heating and/or cooling.
