Filter panel insert, particularly for gases, of pleated web material with closed pleats at the edges which provide a rim to seal the downstream clean space from the upstream, by acting against a resiliently deformable seal in a housing, and being novel in at least the two outermost pleats of the insert being laminated together in order to reinforce the insert in its length dimension. Pref. an alternative method of avoiding the over-stiffening of the edge of the filter insert, utilises a housing with convex end walls, which effectively compress the end pleats by bowing; this technique can be combined with the laminated edge pleats. USE/ADVANTAGE - Filter panel insert construction which does not require additional reinforcement ribs for sealing.
