2-phenyl-1,2-benz:iso:selenazol-3(2H)-1-one - used for treating diabetes and diseases caused by inflammation of islet cells

Use of a pharmaceutical compsn. contg. 2-phenyl-1,2-benzisoselenazol-3(2H)-one (I) with carriers, diluents and additive is claimed for the treatment of diabetes and certain disorders due to inflammation of islet cells. Pref.(I) is used with a thiol donor and a stimulator of glutathione synthesis, esp. 2-oxothiazolidine-4-carboxylate. Pref. compsn. contains 3-80(10-50) wt. % (I) and the compsn. is for enteral, parenteral or rectal use. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) inhibits lysis of the cells of the islets of Langerhans. The dose is 10-2000mg/day
