<p>In a pawl and ratchet clutch (60) for an air turbine starter, a single torsion shaft (110) simultaneously forces each of a plurality of pawls (80) into engagement with the ratchet (65). The torsion shaft (110) is coupled to a cam (100) having radially extending arms each with an involute surface (105) in contact with an involute surface (86) on a radially extending member of one of the pawls (80). The torsion shaft (110) is co-axially disposed within the clutch so as to be readily accessible, which permits its twist to be adjusted without dismantling the starter.</p> |
