The mechanism for transferring objects, e.g. bottles (1), from a first conveyor belt (2) to one or a number of parallel further belts (3; 3a,b) comprises one or more corresponding controllable deflector units (4). The first belt extends at an angle over and in contact with the further belt(s) and is very thin such that the objects are slidably transferred without tipping over. The units (4) are arranged on the belt (2) side facing away from the direction of belt (3; 3a,b) movement. The belt (2) pref. consists of 0.1-0.5 mm thick steel strip and may extend at a 30-60 deg. angle to the belt(s) (3). The units (4) may each comprise individually extendable elements (14) or blow nozzles.
