Metal pipe dip hardening appts. comprises a cooling tank contg. cooling water; a holder unit by which a heated metal pipe is rotatably held from above and below; an immersion unit by which the pipe held by the holder unit is lowered from above the cooling water into the cooling water; a spray unit for spraying cooling water into the inside and onto the outside of the pipe when it is in the cooling tank; and a transport unit which, when cooling is completed, takes the pipe from the holder unit while it is still in the cooling tank and transports it to outside the tank.
