BIOLOGICAL PRODUCTION OF VITAMIN D

PURPOSE:To remarkably improve the conversion efficiency of vitamin D to (di)hydroxyvitamin D by adding a cyclodextrin to a reaction liquid in the microbial hydroxylation of a vitamin D compound. CONSTITUTION:A vitamin D compound having H atom at 25 site (e.g. vitamin D2) and a cyclodextrin are added to a solution containing cells of a microbial strain capable of hydroxylating vitamin D (e.g. Amycolata saturnea FERM BP-2307) or enzyme produced by the strain to effect the conversion of the 25-H atom of the vitamin D compound to OH group. The reaction is preferably carried out by aerobically culturing the above microbial strain at 25-30 deg.C for 24-48hr, adding the vitamin D compound and the cyclodextrin to the culture medium and continuing the aerobic culture for 1-130hr.
