Filter insert, partic. for gases, made from pleated fusible web, with side edges formed as closed folds which provide a sealing rim fit to seal off the downstream clean gas space, having novelty in that the side edges of the folds are splayed to increase their area for attachment to the edge seal material. Pref. the seal material can be in form of a foamed, or elastomeric strip, attached by glueing or fusion welding; ultrasonic welding is preferable. Using iso-flexible strip, the filter can be formed into a preferred circular shape. It is further preferred that the filter web and seal strip are of the same material. USE/ADVANTAGE - Filter for gaseous media, and combustion technique for simple, rapid production.
