Electrode structure for an electrochemical membrane cell consists of a holding frame (6) which is rigidly connected to support sheet (1) and has a spring clamping part (3) into which the protrusions (12) from the flat electrode (10) can be pushed. The comb-like protrusions (12) are made by curving the plate edges with neighbouring curved edges being pushed together into the clamp until the bottom of the electrode plate butts against contact surface (14). The electrode plate is made of several plates (11) with curved edges. Atternatively the clamping device may be a slotted socket (17) fixed to base plate (1) into which bolt-like protrusions (20) are pushed.
