A device for making pellets consists of two parallel contra-rotating drums whose surfaces contain punches (13) and dies (12) which engage each other as the drums rotate. Pellets are therefore pressed from the surfaces of the drums into their hollow interiors (14). The drums are driven in synchronism with each other. Each drum may contain both punches and dies, or one drum may contain only punches and the other only dies. The punches and dies may be round, hexagonal or recetangular in shape. The dies are conical. Scraper elements or screw conveyors (16) may extend into the interiors of the drums. The drums are surrounded by a housing except at the material inlet point (7). Scrapers (21) extend between the projections formed by the punches. A feed mechanism is provided at the material inlet point and is controlled in accordance with the throughout rate of the drums. This mechanism may consist of speed-controlled rollers (10). USE/ADVANTAGE - Used in the mfr. of pellets, from vegetable substances. The proposed device has a very high throughput and low wt., and occupies little space. It is suitable for use in a mobile harvesting machine.
