The floor of a trench is first flushed and cleansed to expose embedded rocks. The digging tool is then withdrawn from the section concerned, and an explosive charge is prepd. with detonators screwed into it and connected together in series. The metallic charge carrier is secured to a fitting and connected to a shorted firing line,for placement on the rock surface by means of drilling rods or cable. It can be re-used repeatedly. ADVANTAGE - Trench wall damage, cavity formation and pitfalls are avoided by an inexpensive and widely applicable method.
