The drill chuck can further tighten but not release under inertia forces. The chuck consists of a cylindrical body (1) which is mounted with a cone (2) in a bore (3) of a tool spindle. A spindle (8), to which clamping jaws (9) are coupled is screwed into the body (1). The jaws (9) are supported in guide grooves of a jaw carrier (13) which is surrounded by a tightening sleeve (14). The jaw carrier (13) fits on a spigot (16) of the body (1). A sleeve (18) fits over the end of the carrier (13) and flange (17) of the body (1). A locking arrangement is mounted between the sleeve (18) and the body (1) and the carrier. The locking arrangement allows a relative movement between the sleeve and the body (1) in the direction in which it is tightened but blocks it in the opening direction. The locking arrangement is in the form of a spiral spring (22) which lies over the end of the carrier and the flange (17). The locking arrangement can be released by a ring (23) which is mounted on the sleeve (18).
