<p>In order to allow inexpensive disposal of the pollutants being formed during heating and melting in the production of molten steel (4) from scrap (3) contaminated with combustible refuse-like substances, and to keep the waste gases free of polluting impurities, the gas being formed on insertion of the scrap (3) into the metallurgical melting vessel (2) and the gas being formed during heating and melting of the scrap (3) is, after conditioning to a temperature range between 1000 and 1500 DEG C, used as fuel gas with release of its sensible heat in a lime-burning process with a moving fixed lime bed (22), sulphur- and chlorine-containing constituents of the fuel gas being absorbed on the burnt lime and the dust contained in the fuel gas being precipitated in the fixed lime bed (22) and the fuel gas, purified on passing through the fixed lime bed (22) and cooled, being then finally purified in a filter installation (28). …<IMAGE>… </p> |
