An antireflection coated substrate for analytical slides used in automated clinical analyzers comprises a planar transparent support (302) for an analytical slide having on one major surface (306) thereof an antireflection coating (314) adapted to minimize reflection at an air-substrate interface and on the other major surface (308) thereof a second antireflection coating (316) adapted to minimize reflection at an analytical solution-substrate interface. Analytical slides comprise the antireflection coated substrate and one or more layers superimposed on the substrate (304) which contain analytical reagents for developing a color when contacted with an analyte in a sample solution. <IMAGE>
