Non-acetylated cellulose materials are thermally stabilised by impregnating with melamine and either diglycolamine, piperazine, dimethyl formamide or mixtures thereof. The melamine may be present in amounts varying from 1:4 to -4:1 by weight of the treating composition. The composition may be applied as a 2 to 10% by weight aqueous solution. Materials treated include rayon, cotton, linen and when used as an insulation material in electrical apparatus, rag, Kraft or manilla paper. |
