PURPOSE:To readily and efficiently obtain the subject compound from a readily handleable raw material through reaction in one stage by reacting an ortho- carbonic acid ester with a dihydroxymethylbicyclooctene. CONSTITUTION:An orthocarbonic acid ester (e.g. tetramethyl orthocarbonate) expressed by formula I (R<1> to R<4> are 1-8C alkyl) is reacted with a 2,2- hydroxymethylbicyclo [2.2.2] oct-5-ene expressed by formula II (R and R' are H, halogen, alkyl, aryl, OH, alkoxyl, carboxyl, silyl, amino, nitro or nitrile), preferably in the presence of 0.001-5wt.% catalyst such as p-toluenesulfonic acid and, if desired, a solvent (e.g. toluene) used normally at 50-180 deg.C to afford the objective compound expressed by formula III. |
