1,207,556. Opening fibrous material; lapforming. K. K. K. KROYER. 7 Nov., 1968 [15 Nov., 1967], No. 52836/68. Heading D1N. The formation of fibre clots in a fibre layer formed on a moving surface 5 is avoided by feeding fibres suspended in a stream of gas through an inlet 22 into a housing 1 placed above the surface 5 and which has a perforated plane base 4 and a stirring device with impellers 13 rotating just above the base. A suction box 6 is mounted beneath the surface 5. Any lumps accumulating on the base are removed through a slit in the housing wall by means of a stream of compressed air issuing from nozzle 19. The lumps then pass via pipe 21 to a disintegrating device, preferably provided with a plurality of nozzles connected with a source of compressed air, before being recycled to the housing.
