[Also in Division F2] A cover 1 for a hatch manhole, &c., in a cross country, or amphibious, vehicle is hing- edly mounted at 2 and has a rotatable handle 5, 6 respectively on the outside and inside of the cover each handle being operatively connected to a disc 8 to the periphery of which four equally spaced rods 9 are pivotally connected. A shaft 16 for the handles 5, 6, has a squared inner end to receive a pot-shaped cover 18 and the disc 8, and is rotatably supported in bearings 15 in a sleeve 14 attached to the cover 1, the cover 18 and the handles 5, 6 preferably being made of resilient material. Each bolt 9, cranked at its outer end, is slidably guided in a deformable block 19 connected to the cover 1 by a strap 20 a bevel 21 on the end of the bolt 9 riding under a pressure pad 22 projecting from a wall 3 surrounding the hatch so that the cover 1 is urged firmly against a sealing lip 23 of a sealing strip 24 when one or other of the handles 5, 6 is rotated. A stop 10, fixed to the underside of the cover 1, works in a recess 11 in the disc 8. The outer handle 5 can be lodged under two yokes when the cover 1 is open by turning the inner handle 6.
