Container (a) an outer casing and integral bottom of cast iron, (nodular cast iron); (b) an auxiliary component which forms fuel element accommodation chambers and which comprises austenitic CrNi steel component included during casting of iron; and (c) an intermediate layer which is formed between the auxiliary component and the container casing and bottom during during casting and which has decreasing carbon content in the direction towards the auxiliary component. ADVANTAGE - High resistance of the austenitic steel to corrosion by highly active waste conc. at up to 450 deg.C.
