PURPOSE:To make a packet switchboard possible to detect an error occurring in the packet switchboard at a high probability by detecting information at the gate thereof. CONSTITUTION:Data from a packet terminal 40 is input to a packet receiving section 12 of switchboard 10 via a subscriber channel circuit 50. The packet receiving section 12, when receiving data, identifies whether data received is an information packet or not, and if the data is an information packet the packet receiving section 12 generates error detecting information for sections other than packet header and FCS sections and postfix the error detecting information to an information section. Received data to which error detecting information was added is circulated as it is in the packet switchboard 10 and finally handed over to a packet transmitting section 11. The packet transmitting section 11, based on error detecting information postfixed to received data, inspects the presence or absence of received data error.
