The seal for flanges has a metal comb-seal (2) with graphite (7) layers on both sides. The comb-seal (2) consists of a metal base (1) of oblong cross-section. The two cross-section lengths are profiled with teeth (5) of the same height, and narrow gaps (6) between, forming a seal. The inner tooth (2) is higher than the inner teeth (5). The outer tooth (4) is lower than the inner tooth (3) so that impurities are avoided. ADVANTAGE - Impurities are avoided by graphite protruding through the higher inner tooth, and a higher temp. than 550 degrees C. is reached by the higher outer tooth, and a seal against oxygen.
