The anti-theft system uses an IR reception diode fixed onto the frontal side of a vehicle radio receiver, for the purpose of receiving a binary, coded pulse train from an external IR transmitter. The received data is then further processed in a small computer, which is built into the radio receiver, and the pulse train decoded, followed by releasing the receiver for switch on. The transmitter is taken with the driver when he leaves his vehicle and thus renders the receiver valueless to a thief since the receiver can only be switched on in conjunction with the prescribed transmitter and associated code.
