In the manufacture of filters from rolls of filter material which can be welded with ultrasound an endless strip of filter material (8) is drawn from above onto a workbench (1) and secured; a sword-like tool (2) approaches the strip from the side to fold the material into two at the same time as the material is moved; the side edges of the material are welded by ultrasound to form a pocket; the material is then moved a specified distance and then repositioned on the bench. The steps are repeated. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process facilitates the continual manufacture of filter elements in an endless belt. Spacers may be inserted between the two faces without damaging the filter edges. (Dwg. 1/2)
