The oil separator is for an engine crankcase breather. It has a cyclone separating the droplets, and with a separator chamber (5) into which the oil-laden gas current is introduced in the tangential direction (6), while the droplets drain away via a bottom outlet. The chamber is lined with open-pore foam material (8), which can be on the peripheral wall and also before the outlet. USE/ADVANTAGE - Largely avoids separated droplets being entrained by the cleaned gas current.
