Continuous cable extruding plant - includes pairs of high inertia wheels which are passed round by wire and cable to even out speed variations arising in the process

Extruding plant, partic. for the prodn. of cables, has a traction device to pull the product through a forming arrangement; in the plant the product is passed at least once around an inertia wheel. Wire is drawn from its reel (1) and gauged (4) after being coated with emulsion. It is next washed (5) and drawn along by pulleys (6), and heated (8) to a constant temp. The extruded (21) insulation is cooled (9) to room temp. and the cable is tested for capacity (10), dia. (11), and breakdown strength (12). The extra features of the plant are pairs (16,17,18,19) of inertia wheels passed round by the cable and drawn by the extruder (21). More than two pairs can be used if preferred. They even out the speed variations caused elsewhere. ADVANTAGE - The arrangements in the plant minimise speed variations of the material passing through. (Dwg.1/1)
