Process for facilitating the regeneration of molten alkali metal cyanate comprises continuous addn. of urea or a polymer or condensate that generates urea. The additive is fed through a funnel or hopper into a series of containers in a continuous conveyor; each container is brought in turn to the top of a vertical shaft, where the contents drop to below the surface of the molten cyanate at about 600 deg.C; and the evolved gases (CO2, NH3 and steam) escape up the tube and through a vent near the top. The device eliminates batchwise addn. and contamination of the surroundings in the vigorous reaction.
