Optical fibre coupler for connection of glass fibre to plastics fibre - has converter for receiving infrared radiation at one end and transmitting visible light from other end
摘要
A quartz glass fibre is coupled to a plastics fibre using a converter (K) which receives infra red radiation and produces visible light. The fibres (1, 2) are connected via their end surfaces to opposite ends of the converter. The converter comprises a tube (3) with an inner surface layer of e.g. infra red phosphor. Infra red light arriving with a wavelength of e.g. 1.3 micrometre is converted to a wavelength of e.g. 0.7 micrometre for transmission via e.g. a polymer fibre. The converter may alternatively comprise a monocrystal fibre doped with rare earths. USE - For low-loss distribution of communications signals, e.g. telephone, data, or television signals.
