A device for raising and lowering railway lines consists of a bearer and a threaded sleeve through which a spindle with an outside thread is screwed. The threaded sleeve (16) is captive in a socket (14) and cannot move axially or revolve. The socket (14) is anchored in the bearer (2), and the spindle (20) is inserted in the socket (14) and screwed through the sleeve (16) which is located at the lower end of the socket (14). The sleeve (16) is of metal and integral with the socket (14), and, if the socket (14) is of sprayed plastic, the sleeve (16) is sprayed in one piece with it. USE/ADVANTAGE - As the spindle is screwed down, its end presses against a stop and the bearer is automatically raised.
