Additionally or alternatively, the part of the stator core adjacent the tip 15 may be increased in cross-section and that adjacent the tip 16 reduced in cross-section, as shown in Fig. 9. A notch 19 is provided in the outer periphery of each pole, which notch may be displaced towards the tip 16 to produce an increase in the cross-section of the flux path on the side of the pole adjacent tip 15 (Fig. 10, not shown). In a further modification, (Fig. 11, not shown), the air gap under the tip 15 is greater than that under the tip 16. |
