Shutter installation for access ways through walls or roof - provides exit for persons during emergency by panels folded like bellows

A shutter installation (1) for access ways in a roof or wall consists of folding panels (2) in a bellows type configuration. The panels (3, 4) are mfd. from transparent shatterproof double skinned material (5). The apex hinge of the panels is sealed (16, 17) for weatherproofing and rain is collected in gutters (6) placed between the connecting sets of panels. The max. apex angle is determined by the length of a vertical bisecting rod. Horizontal distance pieces (14) maintain a min. distance between panels to avoid damage and instability of the assembly when fully contracted. The panel assembly is supported on rollers running inside the support rail (18) to reduce friction. The assembly can be unblocked to open when required to pursuit escape from the building. An escape ladder which will drop down when the assembly is opened can also be operated by this mechanism.
