摘要 PURPOSE:To obtain a large multi-color display device having a high contrast and displaying clear colors at a low cost by preparing multiple combinations of signals with the same wave-form and different phases from that of the signal fed to a segment electrode, and selecting and feeding them to common electrodes according to colors. CONSTITUTION:Signals of (n) kinds with the same wave-form and different phases are prepared, two kinds are selected among them as a segment-on signal SON and a segment-off signal SOF, other signals except the signal SOF are selected and fed to (n) common electrodes, the signal SON is fed to the electrode 2, liquid crystals between (n) common electrodes and the electrode 2 are selectively made responsive or nonresponsive, the preset color is obtained by the combination, the signal SOF is fed to the electrode 2, liquid crystals between all of (n) common electrodes and the electrode 2 are made responsive, and color display is obtained by the difference of colors of picture elements fed with the signals SON and SOF. A large multi-color display device having the maximum contrast of a display device displaying clear colors can be obtained.
