A device for storing food packed in a non-airtight manner comprises an airtight housing 3 having an inner storage compartment 10 and a sealable opening 6 for the introduction and removal of food into and from the housing, and means arranged to generate an air vacuum inside the housing 3 when the opening 6 is sealed or members 15 for connecting the housing 3 to such means.
