PURPOSE:To attain focusing even when an object is not in existence in a prescribed fixed region by detecting a region of the object from a picture pattern and adjusting the focus based on the region. CONSTITUTION:An object is placed in the middle of a pattern and the region of the object is specified from a picture pattern obtained by an image pickup means in an initial frame by depressing a setting button 29 of an object region detection means 5. Then the object region detection means 5 detects the region of the object specified by a correlation arithmetic means 4 among picture patterns obtained from the image pickup means 1 in a succeeding frame and a focus control means 3 adjusts the focus of the image pickup means 1 based on a picture signal of the region of the object by a focus vibration means 4 and a high frequency component detection means 2. Thus, even when the object for image pickup is not in existence in a prescribed region or other object than the object and a background are picked up in most part in the region, the object is focused. |
