The method uses a microcomputer (10) with fast search and program number selections, a table of contents (TOC) (70) for finding a reguired position and a search order, a sequencer (20) for rearranging the order of data, a frequency selector (30), a pulse width modulator (50), a low pass filter (60), a tape drive motor (80), and a fast detecting and control unit (40). The tape contains TOC informations so that a position and second order is stored, instantaneous position data are read and operating signals to the two spool motors are determined.
