An apparatus for mechanically and electrically connecting electrode plates for storage batteries during the forming step is characterized by a gripper 7 which is applied to lugs 3, 4 of electrode plates 5, 6 to connect the lugs to a current-carrying terminal bar 2 between the lugs. The gripper 7 is preferably made of acidresisting material such as hard rubber or plastics and preferably consists of two hinged plates 11, 12 which are provided with gripping jaws at their lower ends. The jaw distance of the gripper can be adjusted by a chucking wedge 8 to the width of the plate lugs 3, 4. The terminal bar 2 which is preferably of lead can be mounted on a ribbed plate 1 of the forming vessel. |
