1302389 Tape cassette players BELL & HOWELL CO 8 April 1970 [25 April 1969] 16653/70 Heading G5R Multitrack tape cassettes are individually taken from a store, one track played, inverted and another track played, then returned to the store. A stack of cassettes is magazine-loaded into the player 10 and a reject button depressed to start a motor driving a cam gear 57. Cam 53 raises a lever 43 carrying a cassette holder 30 rotatable with a drive wheel 47 which, at the top of its travel, is rotated by a puck to invert the empty holder, rotation being limited by a stop 91. The holder 30 is then lowered and dwells opposite the lowest cassette in the magazine so that an arm 35, driven by the cam gear (Figs. 7 to 9, not shown), ejects the cassette through a spring-loaded shutter into the holder which then carries the cassette down to the play position. The drive motor is de-energized by a follower 59 and switch 63. During play, a shaft 75 is driven to continuously open and close a switch (77) indicating that tape drive is in progress and serving to re-energize the drive motor when play ceases. The cassette is thereupon raised, inverted then lowered for the next track to be played. After play the cassette is again raised and inverted but then injected by arm 37 back into the top of the magazine. Detents (119, 121) are provided on the gear 57 to ensure that the cassette injection and ejection arms 37 and 35 operate on alternate revolutions of the gear. |
