Chemically combined toners used in the development of electrostatic-charge image by wet or dry methods have the general formula R CON(R<SP>2</SP>)D wherein R is a saturated or unsaturated, substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic group having at least 4 carbon atoms, R<SP>2</SP> is H or an aliphatic, aromatic or heterocyclic group, and D is a quinone imine dye residue having a primary or secondary amine nitrogen atom. R CO is preferably oleoyl, stearoyl, myristoyl or erucoyl. In the dry method, the surface carrying the electrostatic charge image is contacted with a dry composition comprising 1-10% by weight of one or more of the above toners, iron filings and/or glass beads and contact is made by magnetic brush, cascade, or powder cloud development. In the wet method the surface carrying the electrostatic charge image is contacted with a wet composition comprising a solid or liquid dispersion of one or more of the above toners in a liquid having a high dielectric resistance non- destructive of the electrostatic charge, contact being established by the imbibition method, roller method or spray method. |
