The amount of tracking is adjusted by using a remote controller. The apparatus includes a controller (3) for varying the pulse period of a light receiving unit (2) by dividing the frequency of switching signal, a preset pulse generator (4) for generating tracking control signal according to the remote tracking signal, and for generating the preset pulse, a preset circuit (5) for outputting the preset value according the output signals of the preset pulse generator and the controller (3), a controller (7) for generating and transmitting control signal using reference signal (REF30), a counter (6) for countig by driving flip-flops (FF15-FF20), a preset circuit (9) for setting the preset value by driving flip-flops (FF21-FF26), a controller (10) for generating tracking control signal (1), and a tracking circuit (11) for adjusting the position of the head according to the tracking control signals.
