A method of and a device for the measuring of the sharpness of knives, particularly surgical knives, with a base containing drive mechanisms, horizontal guides and a vertical bracket adapted for suspending the measuring head characterized in that the measuring head (4) is equipped with setting angular arm (5) ended with a gripping device (6) for the knife (7) and coupled with at least one, known force and/or moment of force detector, preferably a detector transferring an electric signal, the most preferably an induction detector, and on guides of the base (1) there is fixed a measuring trolley (8), which performs linear feed motion perpendicularly to the axis of the rotation of the arm (5), with a pre-determined speed, preferably a steady one, and on the upper surface of the measuring trolley (8) there is fixed a gripping device (9) which holds and stretches the control material, preferably with the working surface in the form of a section of a cylinder with the axis perpendicular to the axis of the rotation of the arm (5).<IMAGE>
