In a reference electrode device for measuring electrochemical potential, the electrolyte surrounding the metal electrode consists of a solid mixt. with embedded water mols. Pref. the electrode consists of Zn, Pb, Sn, Cu, Ag and/or an alloy of these. The electrolyte consists of a solid mixt. of hygroscopic cpds., pref. K2CO3, NaNO3 and/or KOH, and bentonite. It also contains hardly water-soluble salts (I) of the cations corresp. to the electrode metal, pref. Zn, Ca or Pb oxalate, Pb or Ca sulphate, Sn, Ca or Cu hydroxide, Ag carbonate or Ab or Pb chloride. (Pt. of) the electrode housing consists of an ion-permeable wall. USE/ADVANTAGE - The device is claimed for measuring the potential of reinforced concrete structures and determining the protective current to be supplied for cathodic protection. It is also suitable for determining the potential of metal structures or electric fields before premises are built, does not dry out, even at low humidity, and can be produced and inserted in the structure under test very economically. |
