CATALYST FOR PURIFICATION OF EXHAUST GAS AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst for purification of exhaust gas having satisfactory purifying performance and high reliability by winding only first foil plural times around a catalyst carrier and welding the resulting superposed part to the inside of an outer tube. CONSTITUTION:First foil 21 and second foil 22 are wound to obtain a wound body 10 and only the foil 21 is further wound plural times to form a superposed part 2a. Catalyst coating layers 6 of a prescribed thickness are then formed by a known coating method such as boehmite coating to complete a catalyst carrier 2 having honeycomb structure. In order to ensure strength, the carrier 2 is inserted into an outer tube 31 and joined in one body by welding from the outside of the tube 31 in the peripheral direction.
